At VSH North County, we work together as a team and therefore hallway discussions happen quite often! Our Specialty and Emergency Departments work together to create a cohesive treatment plan for their patients. Here, Dr. Ganz, our surgeon, Dr. Drake, an internal medicine doctor along with our rotating interns, Drs. Buck, Bowal, and Gosliga are discussing one of Dr. Drake's patient's that needs to have surgery. Dr. Drake and Dr. Ganz work together to ensure the patient gets everything they need and all treatments are medically appropriate. Our surgery technician, Liz, listens closely to confirm if any anesthetic risks are present and what types of medication should be used or avoided for this patient. #VSHNC #collaboration #teamwork #vetlife #specialists #boardcertified ... This Saturday, February 16th is #WorldWhaleDay! This annual holiday was founded in Maui back in 1980 to recognize the beauty and aide in the conservation of the humpback whales that migrate there in the winter months. There, the Pacific Whale Foundation holds a day-long celebration called the Maui Whale Festival.
You don’t need to live in the Aloha state to take part in this fete, as there are many ways that you can honor these gentle giants – even in the comfort of your own home. One way to do this is to become more educated about what you can do to help protect them.
Loopholes in the laws prohibiting commercial whaling worldwide are problematic, but even more detrimental is the estimated 8 million metric tons of plastic that end up in our oceans every year. The plastic that is literally destroying our sea life. At the current rate, according to the Center for Biological Diversity, by the year 2050, the plastic waste in the ocean will outweigh all the fish in the seas…
So, what can we do? Well, there are several small steps we can do every day, and not just on World Whale Day to help these majestic animals.
1) Adopt a whale via the @PacificWhaleFoundation.
2) Go whale watching in lieu of seeing them in captivity.
3) Use fewer plastic products and recycle when possible.
4) Always leave the beach cleaner than when you found it.
5) Buy sustainable seafood. The Monterey Bay Aquarium has a
listing on their website!

Testimonials
Our 13.5 year old Lab, Kealy, could not have been in better hands. She not only survived liver surgery for a ruptured abscess and septicemia, she has fully recovered and is doing GREAT!
All of the VSH staff was terrific, but a special shout out to her many veterinarians and technicians who stayed by her side 24/7 for a week nursing her back to health. We could not have asked for more, and are grateful everyday.
In July of 2014 Chloe unfortunately had a bad reaction to a vaccine and all four legs went lame. After about 3 weeks of seeing another Veterinary office, we decided to bring Chloe to Veterinary Specialty Hospital because she was not doing better.
After numerous tests, blood panels, and the wonderful direction of Dr. Steve Hill with medications, I am happy to report Chloe is now walking and RUNNING. All of her adult friends at the park are amazed to see her condition today. It has been almost a year and I am so happy to have had the guidance of Dr. Steve Hill. I never thought Chloe was going to be able to walk/run again but she is. I would like to give you a heartfelt THANK YOU for all you did for Chloe. You’re the best!
My wife and I brought Oscar, our injured French bulldog, in for an emergency consult. He had injured his spine and was rapidly losing feeling and movement.
Dr. Delamaide and Whitney got us in quickly, explained the injury, the prognosis, and the surgery. We handed Oscar off, not knowing if we would ever see him again.
Fast forward two months, after a very difficult surgery and what seemed an impossible rehab, Oscar has resumed walking, playing, and is just about his old self again. He still has some improvements to make but he is well on the way.
Just wanted to thank you all for giving our family member a chance. We can’t thank you enough.
