Dr. David (Dave) Wirth performed undergraduate studies and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1993. After graduating, he worked in general practice and emergency medicine until 1998 when he founded Midwest Pet Insurance, the first PPO pet insurance company in the US. In 2003, Dr. Wirth opened Veterinary Emergency Service (VES) and Veterinary Specialty Center (VSC), a 3-location veterinary specialty and emergency group of hospitals in Middleton, Madison, and Janesville, WI. Dr. Wirth operated these hospitals for over 15 years before selling them to VCA. While at VES and VSC, Dr. Wirth started a rotating internship program and an emergency and critical care residency. He also served as the Executive Committee Chair for VMG 26.
Dr. Wirth joined Ethos Veterinary Health in 2022 as the Division Leader, supporting Group 8 hospitals in Colorado and British Columbia, Canada. In December 2023, he was named Director of Medical Operations, supporting all Group 1, 2, 14, and 16 hospitals.
Dr. Wirth and his wife, Julie, have three children: Paige, Gavin, and Camryn. The family splits their time between Middleton, WI, and Silverthorne, CO. They have two cats: Jem and Radley. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities, including golfing, biking, swimming, running, and skiing.
