Steve
When Steve was about a year old, he jumped up on the counter, knocked the cover off the dog treat jar, and helped himself to an entire package of dog calming treats.
After a call to poison control and luckily nothing life-threatening, we believe this kicked up an immune-related response and he became incredibly itchy. He started getting sores on his ears, and rubbing his eyes so much that he was causing ulcers. His indiscretions earned him many visits to a veterinary dermatologist, as well as the ophthalmologists at Port City. He spent nine entire months in an E-collar. Finally, with finding the right medications, his new allergy issues got under control.
He is now on a medication that costs about $150 per month, and after he meets his $200 annual deductible, everything is reimbursed at 80% with relation to this particular issue thanks to Embrace Pet Insurance. It will unfortunately be lifelong, so we save a ton of money.
Sadly, Steve did not learn his lesson, and occasionally still eats something that he shouldn’t. He’s quite a naughty pants!
Beqa
Beqa the Dalmatian got sick shortly after her first birthday. She was the classic upset stomach case: vomiting, no appetite, and lethargy. But after a couple trips to the vet, x-rays, and still no improvement, she ended up at Capital District for an emergency surgery. It turned out Beqa had eaten plastic bottle caps months ago!
Thanks to her pet insurance plan with Embrace, her owner didn’t have to worry about the ER bill and she was reimbursed about $6,700! You can read her full story here.
Baxter
Baxter suddenly went blind at the age of one for a reason still unknown. His owners didn’t have to worry about the cost of his speciality appointments with the ophthalmologists at Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital. Baxter was insured with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance, so they could do every test needed to find out what was going on and what treatment would be best. He still has some ongoing issues with his eyes as a result of the disease process, so having pet insurance has allowed them to continue follow-ups with Port City and make sure they’re doing everything they can for him.
Besides his eyes, he’s also a huge trouble maker and gets into things when you least expect and Healthy Paws has paid for all of his ER bills. His owners are so glad they insured him when he was a young pup so he’s gotten the best of care his whole life!
“He’s only three now and I’m pretty sure insurance has paid for itself until he’s at least 20 at this point! I just hope he lives that long.”
Washburne
Washburne the Australian Cattle Dog tore his CCL: a very common injury in dogs. Surgery can be pricey, as his estimate was about $3,000. Luckily he had pet insurance! The reimbursement for the CCL surgery alone covered the last SIX YEARS of monthly premium payments. We can’t say it enough: pet insurance is worth every penny and really can pay off.
“Healthy Paws Pet Insurance has been a great partner so far. Good, affordable pet insurance that meets your needs and covers your dog is essential.”
Zuma
Zuma found her forever home as a young puppy. Soon after meeting her new humans she needed to visit her veterinarian, Crossroads Animal Hospital in New Hampshire, quite often to receive all of her puppy vaccines, boosters, and get spayed. Zuma’s family did in depth research before getting their first dog and purchased Embrace Pet Insurance before picking Zuma up on adoption day.
“It costs us less a year to have the insurance plan than it would be to pay for her visits out of pocket,” one of Zuma’s moms tells us.
Zuma also developed some GI symptoms that lasted several months. She was treated by her primary care doctor as well as visiting Bulger for an Internal Medicine consult.
Zuma’s family says the wellness plan add-on that Embrace offers was instrumental in allowing them to attend multiple training classes with her since the wellness plan covers all the costs of those sessions.
Today, Zuma is a happy and very healthy 5-year-old Labrador who still uses Embrace to this day!
Betty
“Pet insurance gave our dog another 3 years. At 12 years old, she woke up one day lame and in pain. All signs pointed to a tumor on her spine which would have been inoperable. Without insurance $3500 worth of tests wouldn’t have made sense, but we had insurance and did the tests to find a rare bacteria in her spine that was treated with heavy duty antibiotics. She died one week before her 15th birthday.” – Beth D.
A Close Call
“We almost let our {pet insurance} lapse but fortunately didn’t as our sweet pup got hit by a car last fall. What could have cost us $10K cost us $2K thanks to Healthy Paws. And you all took such great care of him!” – Angie B.
CCL Repair on a Lab
“Pet insurance is such a blessing! My Lab had ACL repair surgery yesterday. It was $5500. We’ll only pay $550 out of pocket. With just this one claim the premiums for THREE YEARS pay for themselves!” – Kathryn D.
