AVMA FAQs for Pet Owners- Coronavirus
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has provided up to date information around the dog in Hong Kong who tested “weak positive” for COVID-19 in February. The full release is posted below. It provides answers to many of your pet-related FAQs, including whether or not pet fur can transmit disease, what to do with your pet if you become ill, and best practices and guidelines for elective and non-elective veterinary visits.
While testing on the two dogs is ongoing, neither dog is showing symptoms of illness at this time. IDEXX has also been conducting their own testing on thousands of canine and feline samples and have obtained no positive results for COVID-19. At the present time the CDC, OIE, and WHO agree that there is no evidence to suggest that pet dogs or cats are a source of infection or disease transmission.
